APC's VICTORY: THE NEED FOR AN ENCOMPASSING AND EMBRASING POLITICAL DISPENSATION.
APC's VICTORY: THE NEED FOR AN ENCOMPASSING AND EMBRASING POLITICAL DISPENSATION.
If we don't want an opposition politics the consequence won't pay us as a Nation. What befell PDP was just a mentality of winner takes all and that doesn't make much sense in politics.
I learned a lot from Professor Nnoli's definition of politics that: politics is the seizure of state power, the consolidation of state power and the use of state power. In the 16yrs of APC and PDP rule in lagos and Abuja respectively, both parties have refused to consolidate state power but rather enjoys massively it's uses after successful seizure and that was the reason we had exodus of politicians cross-carpeting between the two big parties without any clear cut political ideology for the over all benefit of the electorates.
In any political structures after election, I believe strongly that the winner should consolidate on his or her electoral success by incorporating reasonable numbers of the opposition in the ruling or governing structure based on in-depth consultation to balance the polity and stabilise the Economy.
I will always be an advocate of opposition because what happened to pdp can still happen to apc because most people that have lost out along side the President in the PDP by now would have started lobbying as usual. Everybody wants to be in the winning party.
Soon, we will start reading on paper and hearing the fall out of political bigwigs due to different political interest. Soon we will start witnessing people from apc joining pdp to build another formidable opposition without a reasonable agenda other than deposing them from the governing position.
I am not a prophet of doom but caution must be observed. People see good on the APC move in using Lagos state wealth to wrestle power from the PDP round the south west and now at the center. Bulk of the wealth that ought to have been used to better the lot of the people. The state as far as I'm concern in terms of revenue is not even supposed to be borrowing money at all but many people are not seeing this. The APC have successfully embarked on power struggle for 16yrs even more than service to the people. At any given chance the leadership of the party would want to convince the people with crumbs of service delivery in 16 years. To me, it seems the people don't know what they deserve.
The PDP on the other hand busy itself with the joy of " we are the ruling party" not even governing party. They forgot that everything in life is temporary. PDP used the central power maximally to its selfish advantage. Now, the fear of the APC is that the PDP would use the resources of Lagos state to wrestle the power back from it even in all of the states it emerges after the April 11th Guber poll. Why must we be having this kind of mentality as a people? Why not we embrace a peaceful opposing and vibrant political differences?
From the beginning of 2014, it started becoming so clear that the PDP was going to lose the central power which prompted me to write an open letter to the President on January 14th 2014. This is readable on my blog: www.akandeakinsanyaolu.blogspot.com (My open letter to President Jonathan). All calculated propositions came to pass such that part of core North political big wigs like Atiku Abubakar joined the APC and the speaker of the house of representatives. It was quite unfortunate that the President surrounds himself with sycophants. I pray the APC don't misuse this power that God and the people have given to it.
In Conclusion, for there to be an encompassing political dispensation by the APC, the party must properly consolidate on its victory and embrace opposition rather than the mentality of winner takes all.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
