ARE WE TRULY AN INDEPENDENT NATION AND PEOPLE?

Image
A Nigerian boy hosting the National Flag To our imagination we still pride ourselves as being an independent nation but I ask myself daily, are we truly an independent people? Are we truly free from colonial slavery and mental trauma? These are my reasons: 1. Majority of our people in position of power or authority threat and treat others like slave " master/slave relationship". This is most pronounced when approaching a police checkpoints. The way they brandish their AK47 while trying to stop you for a check showed to a greater extent that we are still under self inflicted slavery or better still in the dark. 2. The level of exploitation of our government agency showed to a greater extent the disparity between those who have had a blessing and those who have been cursed. 3. Nigerians struggle daily to make the government listen to them 4. Policies and laws are being forced on us without our thought being sought on such policies and laws before passage by those

HOW TRUE IS THIS CLAIM ABOUT GMO FOOD?

GMO FOOD UNDER LABORATORY CHECK GM technology has been around for the past 20 years, and today, 70-80% of the foods in the United States, contain ingredients that have been genetically modified. Many of the most influential regulatory agencies and organizations that study the safety of the food supply, including the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Academy of Sciences, have found genetically modified food ingredients are safe and there are no negative health effects associated with their use. Ingredients grown using GM technology require fewer pesticides, less water and keep production costs down. In fact, GM technology helps reduce the price of crops used for food, such as corn, soybeans and sugar beets by as much as 15-30%.GM technology allows farmers to use fewer chemicals, such as pesticides. THE HYPOCRISY OF NIGERIAN YOUTHS: OUR CHILDREN TOO WILL ASK US WHY?

When in the University as a student's leader, I hated protest with passion because I was of the opinion that: 1. it doesn't bring immediate solution but rather compounding the already existing problem 2. It gives an opportunity to people with ulterior motives to execute and perpetrate their plans 3. Its in most time occurring when other means of settling issues have not been exhaustively utilized and so, I prefer dialogue and continued negotiation whilst judiciously putting my brain on paper with pen. I have never for once hidden this stance and I always embrace criticism from my colleague because that's when I pick my weaknesses most times. This is not to fumble but to pass home a message because there's Nigeria in every microcosm unit of Nigeria. Despite my stance, I do always criticise the University government(Management). Those who knew me then understand that I am saying the truth and of course, a handful of professors and colleagues are my friends

NIGERIA STATE OF IMPUNITY, HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE AND ANTI-CORRUPTION WAR – WHERE WOULD GANI HAVE STOOD?

EBUN-OLU ADEGBORUWA, ESQ. (Being text of paper delivered at the 7th Year Memorial Programme for late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, LL.D, SAN, SAM, on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the International Event Centre, Igbatoro Parliament Road, Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State) INTRODUCTION It is not surprising to have this discourse at this time, when our dear country is in dire need of leadership. The heroes gone by, in times past, had helped to guide Nigeria right, with their struggles of commitment, selfless sacrifices and nation building. I do humbly urge that we maintain a minute silence in honour of Chief Gani Fawehinmi and all other heroes of our nation. When I was approached to be the Guest Speaker for this occasion, I felt some sense of unease, arising mainly from my personal disenchantment with the community of activists and pro-democracy campaigners, in regard to all the recent ugly developments in our nation, to which they have either directly acquiesced or indirectly encouraged.
