GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI's SPEECH AT HOUSE OF COMMONS, UK IN 2013

SPEECH BY GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR AT THE AFRICA DIASPORA CONFERENCE, HOUSE OF COMMONS, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, TUESDAY, 5TH MARCH 2013 Protocols 1. May I thank the organizers for inviting me and my associates to this conference which, if I may say so, is growing in influence by the day. The presence of many Nigerians and distinguished Britons on these historic premises testifies to the importance and to the high expectations of this occasion. At the end of today’s proceedings many of us hope to have a better understanding of our problems and perhaps identify more effective solutions to those problems. 2. My contribution today is based on reflection and practical observation rather than on studious research or scholarly presentation. It is a soldier’s and politician’s broad observations on democracy and economic development in my country, Nigeria. By convention one usually would like to talk about his country outside its shores in glowing terms extolling its virtues and de

SPARE THE ROD, SPOIL THE CHILD

You will agree with me that the saying " spare the rod spoil the child" has a lot to do with how our children end up being useful to the family and society at large. In my own understanding and opinion, this adage does not necessarily mean beating up a child but discipline. Discipline in the way and manner we try to correct our wards when they do wrong things. To start with, some three four decades ago, this adage was so enshrined in the society and embraced by all such that the result was a society where its youth were found worthy in character, learning and sound judgment. I remember in my days in primary school though not too long but over two decades now, the fear of Mrs Dada, my class mistress's strokes of cane was part of the reason if not total why many of us were committed in doing our assignment, going and coming home neat, waking up early for school, being good boy and girl at home and in school and above all looking up to our parents and teachers as role mode

ACCORD PARTY CANT TAKE THIS,I GUESS?www.tribune.com.ng

www.tribune.com.ng The controversy surrounding the Accord Party leadership and the influence of former governor of Oyo State and governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the 2011 election, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, took a fresh dimension as the National Secretary of the party, Dr Samson Isibor, has said that Senator Ladoja cannot contest election on the platform of the Accord Party because he had been expelled about a year ago. Isibor, who made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with Sunday Tribune, alleged Senator Ladoja of disturbing the party, saying: “There is one man that is disturbing the Accord Party. The man is Rashidi Ladoja... This man came to the Accord Party begging us to offer him a platform to contest the governorship election and we obliged him. We agreed but we knew that he is troublesome.” Senator Ladoja, it would be recalled, had stated his readiness to build the Accord Party in Oyo State, after his attempt to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PD

MY THOUGHT ON OYO STATE'S ADMINISTRATION

I think more of the abundant resources endowed on us in OYO state and yet our Governors love borrowing. What happen to all the solid minerals being extracted daily in the state? what other use have we ever thought we could put our massive fertile land aside agriculture? It boils in my mind every day that those massive land owned by oyo state govt can be transformed to dry port where by the over bloated lagos port can have an annex there. To me oyo state can turn the basket of the nation over night if the govt can invest hugely into agriculture and encourage youth involvement. It's high time the govt stopped wasting our common wealth on white elephant projects. No one should take this as an abuse and I am not saying the administration has not being doing one or two things but what I am passing across is for anyone to take time out and assess d projects to determine d quality. How long can all those project last before proper maintenance? Our govt sower ... in borrowing w

POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO BOKO HARAM INSURGENCE IN NIGERIA

To a greater extent, this adage goes a long way affecting the sovereignty and unity of Nigeria as an independent state, " A house divided against itself cannot stand". To start with, as a Nigerian one should take it as a responsibility to ask him/herself daily this salient question: Are we really united in Nigeria? Personally, I believe that Unity is more than a word of  mouth. Unity is loyalty and solidarity because if one does not stand for one thing one would fall for everything. Based on this, it is also pertinent to ask, how loyal are we to the unity of Nigeria and are we in total solidarity for its continuous existence? these and many other questions keep ringing bell in my ears daily. Daily, Nigerians are being murdered in cold blood yet it seems to the leadership of our Nation that all is well but to every innocent Nigerians we know that, all is not well. Should we say our leaders have failed to stand for something or they are clueless? If I am to answer this ques

MY REACTION TO NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS' PRESIDENT'S ELECT UNWHOLESOME PRESENCE IN UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

MY ARGUEMENT.... UITES SHINE UR EYES! To start wt: a Civilization can't be destroyed without until it is destroyed within. University of ibadan is not a baby institution and as such, d present nans president is too forward to have come to start his assignment from University of Ibadan albeit his experience in struggle if any? The issue in ui has intentionally being blown out of proportion and exaggerated by some quarters in order to prove that d su is incapable inclusive d src and especially d students' Union President.  It is too early for NANS along wt its president elect and his cohorts to come and prove to the generality of Nigerian student that it has become a noble body over night by rushing to UI like a persona non grata to delve into issues that doesn't concern it at the moment saying it wants to save uites from being gagged.personally,I blv our institution can't be used as a litmus test for their questionable characters. For the records, it is only the su pres

freedom fighters and groups in Nigeria

If really d established vigilante group, d niger delta militant, d islamic sects and fundamentalist and d various ethnic and tribal consultative forum in the country truely wish and yearn for a true federalism and one Nigeria, then I suggest that they all form a u united front because, a house divided against itself cannot stand.

unexposed individual's view

You can never change the mind set of people that are really not exposed to the issues of life because they cannot see beyond their immediate view or think beyond their level of intellectual capabilities.

Result of Poll

Based on the poll on my blog about the future of youths in Nigeria, 75% of the voters believed that the future is assured for youths while 25% of the voters claim the future is not assured for youths in Nigeria. We can therefore conclude that according to the poll result, the future is absolutely certain for youths in Nigeria despite the stressful economic situation.
