ABYSMAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN NIGERIA

NB:This piece was written 2months ago Some hours ago at about 10:25pm, 7th March, 2015 around Ijegun in Ikotun, Lagos, while driving along the Ijegun road, right in front of me, lets say 20m away, I saw a man being knocked down by a tricycle. Immediately after the accident I manoeuvred my way in order not to be caught in the rowdy scene I perceived would ensued but when I looked at my rear mirror I noticed that many people around the place avoided moving close to the victim of the accident. To my greatest surprise the driver of the tricycle parked and rushed down while screaming and praying at the same time that God should save him from an act of murder. With sympathy and pity, I reversed my car close to the scene of the accident, park very well and alighted to see what help I could offer considering the fact that everyone was being careful to avoid unforeseen trouble. I moved closed to the victim right at the centre of the road, checked his pulse by his neck t...

NIGERIA: A NATION LEAD BY GREEDY FOES.

I am never surprised that we are in the present economic verbose as a Nation. Not too big a word to qualify the present economic quagmire we are witnessing. We ought to have experienced this in 2011 had pgej lost that election because as at then, the treasury was also emptied but because of the electoral sympathy of a shoeless person, he emerged victorious and the ever inevitable shame was covered in preparation for now. As at March 2011, the then minister of works stated succinctly that the Nation was broke to embark on any capital project. The reserves from 52billion dollars then was left with 300million dollars less than a month to election but no one cares to listen. Now in 2015, less than 3weeks to handing over, we have started experiencing the pain we escaped in 2011 due to bad spending. This attitude of bad spending without saving cum broke nation was the reason behind the subsidy removal in January 1st 2012 in order for the govt of the day to recoop wasted funds in or...

WHAT IF NO JAJA?

The lackadaisical attitudes of health personnel in jaja clinic, University of Ibadan by now ought to have been thoroughly checked. Many among us have one or two story to share about Jaja clinic but the present situation in Jaja can be linked directly or indirectly to the National problem generally and the fear among everyone that" ah! may he or she not die on my hand. I cant write statement o!" In 2010, a friend died in jaja with similar experience. He slumpped on the field but died either while on d way to jaja or in jaja, no one can say succinctly. Another astmatic patient too died in 2007 in similar fashion. A close friend of mine was almost becoming a victim in 2009 when we went to jaja for complains and immediately they started their act of where is your jaja card, what is your jaja number. Some drugs are not free, I immediately drove him out of the university to a private clinic off campus for better treatment. And at the end, a life was saved. Without jaja, ...

NO VICTOR NO VANQUISH

NO VICTOR NO VANQUISH My mum always say to me in the course of my growing up as her only son in the midst of her four daughters, my sisters, that: In life, you can not have or achieve everything but that which you desire can be achieved even more when you are contented. Therefore, So far, in my short sojourn in life, contentment has been my guiding principle. Everything i do in my life i always prepare my mind with the end at heart in that, whatever comes out i take in good faith. Since the beginning of the political campaigns for 2015 general election, the moment i have always wished and desire to come to pass is a moment of an assured feeling of relief that the future is finally clear without being blurred collectively for every Nigerians once we have a leader that can take the bull by the horn and sail this ship of state called Nigeria in the right direction. This to me was achieved the day General Mohammed Buhari, GCFR was declared the winner of the 2015 Presid...

APC's VICTORY: THE NEED FOR AN ENCOMPASSING AND EMBRASING POLITICAL DISPENSATION.

APC's VICTORY: THE NEED FOR AN ENCOMPASSING AND EMBRASING POLITICAL DISPENSATION. If we don't want an opposition politics the consequence won't pay us as a Nation. What befell PDP was just a mentality of winner takes all and that doesn't make much sense in politics. I learned a lot from Professor Nnoli's definition of politics that: politics is the seizure of state power, the consolidation of state power and the use of state power. In the 16yrs of APC and PDP rule in lagos and Abuja respectively, both parties have refused to consolidate state power but rather enjoys massively it's uses after successful seizure and that was the reason we had exodus of politicians cross-carpeting between the two big parties without any clear cut political ideology for the over all benefit of the electorates. In any political structures after election, I believe strongly that the winner should consolidate on his or her electoral success by incorporating reasonabl...

A CLARION CALL TO JOBLESS NIGERIAN GRADUATES STILL ROAMING THE STREETS OF THEIR ALMA MATTER.

A CLARION CALL TO JOBLESS NIGERIAN GRADUATES STILL ROAMING THE STREETS OF THEIR ALMA MATTER. I understand that the economy of the country so far, has not been palatable and helpful for most graduates to make head way in life. This has been the reason why some have decided to make the idea of following politician around or roaming the streets within University of Ibadan, a job. Some graduates used their political romance with politicians to secure meaningful job while some use it to secure political appointment. To those set of people that secure a genuine job through political romance or bootlicking, we can term them smart and determined not just to be used by politicians. Among the smart group of people, some behave foolishly even though they pretend to be classy by fronting political and social agitation plus students/politicians financial negotiation, though they front more for their pocket yet they pretend not to be gaining anything financially. I think its ...

A LESSON LEARNED FROM AN ADULT POLITICIAN

A LESSON LEARNED FROM AN ADULT POLITICIAN As the welfare secretary of the Students Union Transition Committee, University of Ibadan in 2008 under the able leadership of Raimi Oluwadamilare as the Chairman, we were approached by NANS to organise a personality public Lecture in which Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe would be the guest speaker. The Chairman chose me to liaise with them and be the front man for the Union while i traveled down with them to the senator's house in Lagos. O n getting to the senator's house, we were accorded much respect as uites. I guess the senator knew the NANS representative very well with the way they interacted. With much talk we concluded and stood up to go and a most astonishing thing transpired.  Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe sought my attention and said '''iwo! sora fun awon won yi o! fi oju si iwe re ki osi fi iwon si ohun ti e nse nitori awon eleyi ti lo igba ti won tan o" meaning; you! be very careful with these o...
